Milestone 4 (Windows Server 2016 to Different Computer)

This milestone was a bit trickier to initiate than the previous milestones. For this one, I utilized two different computers, both with 4gb of RAM. I initially had to install rufus on my laptop in order to transfer the Windows Server 2016 over to my USB flash drive.


 
This step was required in order to install Windows Server 2016 into a separate computer upon booting up. Once the computer booted up, I pressed F12 to get into the booting setup menu and install the server from my USB drive. Once the server finished installing, I was welcomed with the server manager. I turned on some of the essential features, such as internet access. I also turned on access to Hyper-V.









Through the Hyper-V manager, I created my virtual machine. The virtual machine used 512mb of usable memory. This step took the most time to complete for me but after changing settings such as memory usage and iso images, I had finally got the virtual machine to boot.





Outside of the virtual machine, I had downloaded the BackupChain application in order to back up the vm. The steps for this part were similar to that of milestone 3:

Milestone 2 (Setup IIS and FTP Server)

     During this IIS setup, I had the most trouble browsing the created website. I would originally browse it using the given url of testingsite.com, but this was not the correct url to use. It did not display the text that I had written. Instead, this url redirected me to a bunch of junk information and text. I had known a little bit afterward that I did something wrong in the setup. It was either that or I did not enter the correct url. Advanced settings of the IIS Site      After changing the url to localhost.testing.html, I was able to get my resulting message. This part of the milestone gave me the most trouble and took up the most of my time. After correcting this error, I proceeded to work on the ftp site. Milestone 7 (Testing the Exclusion Tab)

For this milestone, I can finally get into software testing. Specifically, I am working on the exclusion tab in the BackupChain application. This tab is available in order to exclude any unwanted files from backing up. Once I select a file to back up, I then select a location for that file to be backed up into. The selected file will have multiple contents inside. This means that many different things will be backed up unless I exclude any specific file that I do not want backed up. In a pictures file called "Test," I have two photos. One is a picture of the windows logo, and the other is a picture of the recycling bin icon. I am going to backup the entire "Test" file, but I do not want to back up the recycling bin icon, named "Bin." For this software test, I will be using a file backup.
